Samsung Galaxy S7 Active Fails Water-Proofing Test

Consumer Reports has cast doubt on Samsung’s claims about the water resistant qualities of the Galaxy S7 Active.

Samsung’s marketing for the Galaxy S7 Series has played up the device durability, with one commercial for the S7 Edge featuring rapper Lil’ Wayne showering the device in champagne.

Consumer Reports found that mainline Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge lived up to Samsung’s ads, surviving immersion in five feet of water for 30 minutes, while the S7 Active fell short.

Tests done by Consumer Reports found the device’s touchscreen non-responsive and obscured by green lines post-submersion.

There were also bubbles observed in the device’s camera lenses.

Samsung has said it is investigating the issue and told The Associated Press that “there may be an off-chance that a defective device is not as watertight as it should be.”
