New BlackBery Smartphone For Crack Addicts

Academics and researchers say they are increasingly seeing people who show addictive traits when away from the gadget nicknamed “CrackBerry”.

The new device which appears not to be supported by any carriers at present is set to compete with smartphones from Samsung, LG and Nokia.

The new BlackBerry Bold is, according to the maker Research in Motion, a flagship smartphone with professionals and power users in mind. It is the first BlackBerry to support tri-band HSDPA high-speed networks around the world and comes with integrated GPS and Wi-Fi, as well as a digital camera and media management capabilities.

With a black exterior, satin chrome finished frame and leather-like backplate, the phone features a full QWERTY keyboard and half-VGA resolution colour LCD.

“The new BlackBerry Bold represents a tremendous step forward in business-grade smartphones and lives up to its name with incredible speed, power and functionality, all wrapped in a beautiful and confident design,” said Mike Lazaridis, President and Co-CEO Research In Motion.

The phone comes with the usual set of BlackBerry productivity apps including email and organiser. Other features include a microSD/SDHC memory card slot and a new browser interface which mimics that of a desktop-style webpage. Users can also now download attachments from within a browser and there is support for watching streaming videos (RTSP – real-time streaming protocol).

The BlackBerry Bold smartphone 9000 is scheduled to be available from wireless carriers around the world beginning this summer, the company says.
