Free Tweets, Facebooking! Optus Lure Pre-Pay to 4G

Pre pay users who BYO a 4G handset can connect to ‘Optus’ Prepaid Social’ deal and get ‘unlimited’ calls to Optus mobiles, social media including Facebook, Twitter, MySpace, eBay and Co, as well as unlimited standard SMS.

There are five recharge options ranging from $30, $40, $50 to $100.

However, if you call abroad a lot, the prepay social deal will also give you 250 minutes of international calls on a $30 recharge, going up to 900 mins on the top tier $100 recharge, to 23 countries including China, UK, USA and New Zealand.

Internet data allowances ranges from 500MB, 1GB, to 5GB on top tier plan.

Standard national calls to fixed line and other mobiles cost 89c per min.

Optus 4G is live in selected areas of Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane CBD, Surfers Paradise, Perth and the Greater Newcastle and Hunter regions, and will be extending to other major metro areas soon.

Current 4G ready handsets in Oz include Samsung Galaxy S3 4G, iPhone 5 and Motorola Razr HD.

Optus is also offering prepaid customers two 4G prepaid mobile broadband bundles, a 4G USB dongle as well as a 4G portable WiFi modem that can wirelessly connect up to ten devices.

Device bundles will be available to order online from Friday November 16.

Optus, who went live on its 4G network a few months ago and almost a year after rival Telstra, said they have seen an “incredible amount of interest” from their customers on the 4G LTE network, according to Michael Smith,the Managing Director of Marketing at Optus.

“We’re excited about the range of offerings that are launched today to meet the demand for prepaid 4G, so prepaid customers can tweet, post, like and share on Optus 4G speeds this holiday season.”
