ZTE Flagship Drops Anchor At JB

Chinese phonemaker ZTE has given the JB Hi-Fi retail chain an exclusive deal on marketing its new audio-centric flagship smartphone in Australia.

While ZTE is perhaps best known in Australia as a budget manufacturer that supplies Telstra’s own-branded devices, the Axon 7 is tackling the high-end smartphone market with what it calls a “flagship audio experience.”

The Axon 7 supports Dolby Atmos and Digital Plus surround sound audio, along with “the best audio hardware integrated into a handset so far,” according to ZTE. The device integrates two dedicated audio chips that can be found in “high end consumer audio players and professional / broadcast grade recorders,” the company said. It also supports Google’s Daydream virtual reality.

Alongside the Axon 7, ZTE has also launched the Axon 7 Mini which is said to support Dolby Atmos at a cheaper price, but drops Daydream support and features only a single dedicated audio chip.

The Axon 7 is on sale now at JB HiFi stores for $699. The Axon 7 Mini is priced at $498.
