Chinese Brand Denies Fall Out With Leica
Xiaomi has officially denied recent rumours suggesting an end to its camera partnership with Leica, with company executives firmly rejecting speculation that gained widespread attention across social media and technology news outlets yesterday.
The rumours originated from tipster Digital Chat Station, who claimed that Xiaomi’s collaboration with the German camera manufacturer was coming to a close, prompting swift and direct responses from Xiaomi leadership.
Wang Hua, Xiaomi’s General Manager of Public Relations, publicly addressed the claims and dismissed them as completely unfounded.
Drawing parallels to similar speculation from June 2023, Wang referenced his previous stance with added emphasis, stating “Last time, a blogger said the Xiaomi 14 would be the last in the Leica series. I called it nonsense then. This time, there’s even a named author, so my reply needs an upgrade: it’s still nonsense.”
Xiaomi emphasised that its partnership with Leica remains robust and is actively expanding, pointing to several recent developments that demonstrate the companies’ continued commitment to collaboration.
In May, Xiaomi’s camera team updated its watermark design to align with Leica’s global visual identity, while June saw the company provide detailed explanations of Leica’s “Authentic” and “Vibrant” image profiles alongside plans to bring Leica’s signature shutter sounds to older smartphone models.
The ongoing partnership is prominently showcased in the Xiaomi 15 Ultra, which serves as the flagship example of the co-branded collaboration.
The device features Leica-tuned optics, signature Leica colour modes, and a red-accented user interface inspired by Leica’s distinctive branding aesthetic.
The smartphone also includes six Leica-style tone presets and custom image processing algorithms developed jointly with Leica’s imaging specialists.
Xiaomi India separately confirmed the partnership’s continuation in direct communications, stating that “Xiaomi and Leica have collaborated closely to integrate advanced optics and imaging technologies into Xiaomi devices. This partnership continues to thrive, grounded in a shared vision of pushing the boundaries of mobile imaging. Recent rumours suggesting the end of our collaboration are entirely unfounded.”
The collaboration between Xiaomi and Leica represents a significant strategic alliance in the competitive smartphone camera market, where partnerships with established camera manufacturers have become increasingly important for mobile device differentiation.
The partnership allows Xiaomi to leverage Leica’s century-long expertise in optical engineering and colour science while providing Leica with access to Xiaomi’s global smartphone distribution network and manufacturing capabilities.
The swift and emphatic denial of breakup rumours suggests both companies view the partnership as strategically valuable and commercially successful.
The collaboration has produced several well-received smartphone models that combine Xiaomi’s hardware engineering with Leica’s imaging heritage, positioning the alliance as a key component of both companies’ future product development strategies.
The rumour dismissal comes as Xiaomi continues expanding its product portfolio beyond smartphones, recently launching a 20,000mAh compact power bank with built-in cable in India and introducing an 8,000W modular track socket featuring child-safe design and smart functionality features.
