German headphone brand Sennheiser could face new competition from the very Company that helped build their brand in Australia in the first place.

Synchronised Technology or Syntec as it was previously known, were the original distributors in Australia of the Sennheiser brand before it was taken over by a Swiss hearing aid Company.

According to Wayne Farran the National Sales & Marketing Manager of Syntec the Company could in the future end up taking Sennheiser on with renowned German headphone brand Beyerdynamic whose current products are hand made in Germany.

Last week the German business was the subject of a $216M take over by Chinese Company Cosonic International who intends to keep the premium Beyerdynamic being manufactured in Germany, however a mass retail range of the Companies legendary headphones could be manufactured outside of Germany with the Chinese Company taking advantage of the strength of the Beyerdynamic brand.

According to Wayne Farran who along with the Sloss family have been a pioneer of premium headphone sales in Australia the local distributor could in the future take advantage of a new range of Beyerdynamic headphones with a re-entry into the mass retail market where Sennheiser competes with a range that has been described as being “nowhere as good as when the Sennheiser family owned and manufactured the consumer brand”.

“Prior to the acquisition we did not have the range or the product to enter the mass consumer market. This could change in the future”. he spoke.

“The deal is subject to German authority approval so we will have to wait but I doubt that there will be any problems”.

Cosonic International is an OEM manufacturer of various audio brand including Philips, JBL, and Beats, the Company paid cash to acquire Beyerdynamic with insiders tipping that the Company will launch a brand to compete head on with Bose, Sony, Audio Technics and Sennheiser.
Global Managing Director Richard Cambell has confirmed that manufacturing for the Companies top end premium brand will continue to be in Germany for the 100-year-old headphone brand which has been family-owned ever since it was founded by Eugen Beyer in Berlin, 1924.

A visit to the Cosonic web site reveals the extent of the Companies audio knowledge and manufacturing capability.

Observers claim that the deal marks yet another major shift in the premium headphone market, Bose acquired McIntosh Group and Harman is now in the process of acquiring Sound United or Masimo Consumer as it was rebranded.

In the past Sony acquired Audeze and Sonova acquired Sennheiser’s struggling consumer division which is now struggling to be seen as a premium brand.
