Samsung’s S8 Active Gets Confirmed

As previously indicated by leaks, Samsung are set to round out their Galaxy S8 range with the new S8 Active.

The existence of the new device was all but confirmed by US carrier AT&T, who ran a banner ad teasing the device on their website as “the toughest  Galaxy smartphone.”

Samsung later released a statement confirming the device’s announcement.

“Our new Samsung Galaxy S8 Active is designed with tested durability and strength to address the needs of consumers who need a more rugged device for their lifestyle,” said Tim Baxter, president and CEO of Samsung Electronics North America.

The Galaxy S8 Active ditches the edge-to-edge display of the mainline S8. It features a flatter screen and slightly thicker and more-rugged design – particularly when it comes to the backside of the device.

Spec-wise, the Galaxy S8 Active features a 5.8-inch AMOLED display, Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 processor, 4GB of RAM, 64GB of internal storage, 12-megapixel rear-camera and 8-megapixel front-facing selfie shooter.

Perhaps most importantly, it’s packing a 4000mAh battery – which means it’s likely well-equipped to deliver substantially longer battery life.

The S8 Active will initially be exclusive to the US market through AT&T.

No word yet on Australian pricing or availability. In the States, it’ll retail for about $100 more than the standard S8.
