Samsung To Launch Bixby Speaker Soon

As competition in the smart speaker market continues to heat up, Samsung mobile boss DJ Koh has announced its ‘Galaxy Home’ speaker will launch by April — Australian availability, however, is yet to be confirmed.

Koh claimed to make the remarks to a CNET reporter after Samsung’s Unpacked event.

Samsung did not make an official comment on the Bixby-powered Galaxy Home speaker during the event, instead focusing on its category-killing Galaxy Fold, S10 range of smartphonesnew 5G model, and new wearables.

The Galaxy Home speaker features an eye-catching design complete with tripod style legs and can act as a hub for SmartThings and control any compatible smart home gadgets by voice.

At CES 2019 Samsung announced they would be refocusing on the voice assistant and adding it to this year’s Samsung TVs and Family Hub refrigerator.

Voice control was one of the biggest trends at CES and is the next big wave of computing, so it makes sense that Samsung is focusing on that space especially after its purchase of audio company Harman in 2016.

However, they are going up against major players Google, Amazon, and Apple who have already made their name in the sector.

Samsung has announced that Bixby can now understand four new European languages — British English, German, Italian, and Spanish — joining US English, Korean and Mandarin Chinese.
