New Pixel Stand Charger Revealed
Updates to the Google App reveal a new device type, codenamed Dreamliner, will bring wireless charging and personal assistant functionality in the Pixel 3.
First revealed by 9to5Google, the code displays multiple strings that appear to show a dock that requires Trusted Device status to take commands while the mobile device is locked.
The code itself is not unique, but the terminology used in combination with other rumours, such as glass backing on the Pixel 3, suggests docked wireless charging the additional functionally is on the cards.
<string name=”trusted_dock_action_text”>I Agree</string>
<string name=”trusted_dock_cancel_text”>No thanks</string>
<string name=”trusted_dock_message”>Your Assistant can use your personal info to make suggestions, answer questions, and take actions for you when your phone is locked and on your Pixel Stand</string>
<string name=”trusted_dock_title”>Get personalized help when your phone is on your Pixel Stand</string>
Previous allusions to the Dreamliner, such as the one discovered by XDA Developers were discovered in the Android P code, where Dreamliner is identified as a wireless charger that requires privileged access.
<permission android:name=”com.google.android.systemui.permission.WIRELESS_CHARGER_STATUS” android:protectionLevel=”privileged|signature”/>
Google toyed with wireless charging in the Nexus line of phones but walked away from the feature, reintroducing it may be a retort to Apple’s move to embrace the technology.
