Netflix is cutting subscription prices in over 30 countries, as the company admits viewers “have never had more choices when it comes to entertainment.”

Unfortunately, Australia won’t be seeing a price reduction — neither will the UK or the US — and considering Netflix operates in roughly 190 countries and territories, this is mainly aimed at scooping up regions they don’t already have a major foothold in.

“We seek to serve more members around the world in trying to deliver appropriate value at those different price points, and we’re doing a good job expanding that range,” Netflix co-CEO Greg Peters said last month.

“There’s a bunch of people around the world in countries where we’re not deeply penetrated, and we have more opportunities to go attract them.”

Croatia, Slovenia, Bulgaria, Yemen, Jordan, Libya, Iran, Kenya, Nicaragua, Ecuador, Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand, Philippines, Bosnia, Herzegovina, Serbia, Albania, North Macedonia, and Slovakia will all get the price cut.

Last month, Netflix signalled price hikes were on the way for the non-ad tiers in some markets.

“We think of ourselves as a non-substitutable good,” Peters said.
