The controversy keeps raining down for Activision Blizzard, with the Wall Street Journal reporting that 37 employees have “exited” the gaming developer, with a further 44 disciplined in response to allegations of sexual harassment and misconduct.
This is on the back of more than 20 employees being “exited” due to an internal investigation in October 2021, and at least a further 20 receiving disciplinary action.
But this is just the latest eruption within the California company, after a lawsuit filed by California’s Department Of Fair Employment And Housing in July alleged widespread sexual harassment and discrimination.
With plummeting share prices, they have suffered staff walkouts, and calls for their CEO Bobby Kotick to resign over claims he was aware of employee misconduct.
Now the WSJ are reporting there are claims that Kotick held back a report that was set to be released before the holiday period which summarised the actions, saying that it made the inhouse problems seem bigger than was known. There have also been reports gaming titans Xbox are evaluating their relationship with the company.
The “frat boy” atmosphere at Activision has previously been described as a “toxic culture”, and it seems there is still more news to come out of the company.
