LEGO, now a featured brand at JB Hi-Fi, has revived a nostalgic favourite just as demand for Nintendo handheld devices is booming.

Retro gaming fans can now get their hands on a near life-sized LEGO model of the classic Nintendo Game Boy. This new set, developed in collaboration between LEGO and Nintendo, consists of 421 pieces and faithfully recreates hallmark features including the iconic D-pad, A and B buttons, SELECT and START buttons, as well as detailed touches like the volume dial and contrast wheel.

LEGO is calling the kit “a tribute to a golden era of gaming,” loaded with authentic details that fans will instantly recognise.

One of the standout features of the set is its functional Game Pak slot, which houses brick-built cartridges of The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening and Super Mario Land. While the model doesn’t power on or play games, builders can customise the display to show the classic Nintendo start screen or in-game visuals from either cartridge.

Originally launched in 1989, the Nintendo Game Boy sold over 120 million units worldwide, becoming one of the most influential handheld gaming systems ever. Its success cemented Nintendo’s dominance in portable gaming, paving the way for future hits like the Nintendo Switch.

LEGO’s new Game Boy set (Product No. 72046) is available now for preorder via the LEGO online store and is expected to be a hit with collectors and nostalgic fans alike.

The release follows another recent LEGO x Nintendo collaboration – a Mario Kart-themed build – further cementing the partnership between the two entertainment giants.
