Emirates Offers Loaner Tablets
Australian passengers travelling with Emirates to the USA may have to surrender their tablets, notebooks and smartphones as checked-in baggage after landing at Dubai – but the airline says first and business class passengers will have access to borrowed tablets supplied by Emirates.
Those travelling to London may keep their own gear in the cabin, as the current ban only affects US destinations.
This follows a decision last month in the US and Britain to ban incoming passengers from carrying electronic devices other than smartphones when travelling from designated regions – of which Dubai is one.
The supplied tablets are said to be mounted on legs. But there will apparently be no Macs, despite the one pictured here – the supplied tablets are Microsoft Surface devices.
Emirates said the service is free and available immediately, though only in first and business class. Already around 8000 passengers are said to have used the service on 112 weekly non-stop flights from Dubai to various cities in the US, according to the airline
