DJI Launches RS 5 Gimbal for Solo Videographers
DJI has unveiled the RS 5, a new lightweight commercial camera gimbal aimed at solo videographers and small production teams, bringing smarter tracking, stronger stabilisation and longer battery life to its Ronin lineup.
The new model builds on the company’s recent gimbal releases with a focus on efficiency and ease of use, particularly for creators working alone in fast-moving shooting environments.
Weighing just 1.46kg including the battery grip and quick-release plates, the RS 5 supports camera payloads up to 3kg and is designed to work with a wide range of popular mirrorless camera and lens combinations.
One of the headline upgrades is the new RS Enhanced Intelligent Tracking Module, which allows users to track subjects directly from the gimbal’s touchscreen.

Unlike earlier systems, the module can follow not just people, but also vehicles, pets and other moving objects, maintaining focus on human subjects from up to 10 metres away.
If a subject leaves the frame, the system can automatically reacquire them, a feature aimed at reducing reshoots in crowded or unpredictable scenes. The module attaches magnetically, with no additional adapters required.
Stability has also been improved due to DJI’s fifth-generation RS stabilisation algorithm, which boosts peak motor torque by 50%. This delivers smoother footage during fast movement, sudden direction changes and vertical shooting, which is increasingly important for content destined for social platforms.

DJI has added several features focused on creative flexibility, including a new Electronic Briefcase Handle for low- and high-angle shots, one-handed operation and reduced wrist fatigue. A new on-screen Z-Axis Indicator provides real-time guidance to help users adjust their movement for steadier results.
Battery life is another standout. The RS 5 charges fully in just one hour and delivers up to 14 hours of use, extendable to 30 hours with the optional BG70 high-capacity battery grip. Bluetooth shutter support has also expanded to include Panasonic and Fujifilm cameras.
In Australia, the DJI RS 5 is priced at A$839 for the standard kit or A$999 for the Combo, which includes the tracking module and Electronic Briefcase Handle.
