Disney, Sony, Warner Hold Film Releases From Russia

Impending major movie releases The Batman, Turning Red and Morbius won’t be going ahead in Russia, after Warner, Disney and Sony pulled them because of the country’s invasion into Ukraine, in line with governments around the world imposing sanctions and global corporations cutting business ties.

“In light of the humanitarian crisis in Ukraine, WarnerMedia is pausing the release of its feature film The Batman in Russia,” a spokesperson says of the highly anticipated flick that was set to open there on Friday.

Disney have also delayed the Russian release of the Pixar animated movie Turning Red, saying, “Given the unprovoked invasion of Ukraine and the tragic humanitarian crisis, we are pausing the theatrical release of films in Russia.”

Disney also say they will work with NGOs to provide “urgent aid and other humanitarian assistance to refugees”.

Meanwhile, Sony has stopped the release of their Marvel adaptation of Morbius in Russia, saying, “Given the ongoing military action in Ukraine and the resulting uncertainty and humanitarian crisis unfolding in that region, we will be pausing our planned theatrical releases in Russia.”
