Bodum USA Recalls Almost 6 Million Coffee Makers Over Serious Burn Risk
Nearly six million Bodum French press coffee makers have been recalled in the US after reports of glass carafes breaking during use, resulting in dozens of reported burn injuries.
The US recall covers approximately 5.9 million French press coffee makers fitted with replaceable glass carafes.
The affected products include 8-cup and 12-cup models across the Bistro, Brazil, Caffettiera, Chambord, Crema, Java, Jesper and Kenya ranges.
According to US-based Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), the glass carafes can unexpectedly break during use if the glass has been damaged or cracked. Using metal spoons to stir coffee, for example, can contribute to the damage and has the potential to cause the glass to shatter and spill dangerous hot liquid.Â
The safety regulator has recorded 70 reports of carafes breaking, including 48 reports of consumers suffering burn injuries.

The affected coffee makers were sold in the US through major retailers including Target and Walmart, as well as Amazon and other online outlets. Sales reportedly date back to 1974 and continued through October 2026.
Under the US recall arrangements, affected consumers are being offered a free plastic stirring spoon and an additional warning label. Consumers are also being told not to use cracked or damaged glass carafes and to stop stirring coffee with metal utensils.
There is currently no recall notice on the products in Australia, though the affected ranges are international recognises and could be available locally..Â
Bodum French presses are an established part of the coffee equipment market, making it important for Australian owners to establish whether their particular models are affected.
The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) operates the Product Safety Australia website, where consumers can check for local product recalls and safety warnings.
Until further clarification, owners of the listed Bodum models should check their carafes for cracks or damage and avoid using metal utensils with their presses.
