BMW XM Hybrid Electric Concept Vehicle Set For Production
BMW are taking their M class of luxury cars electric, with a plug-in hybrid vehicle called the BMW XM set to go into production in their South Carolina plant in late 2022.
With a V8 engine combined with an electric motor to give out preliminary figures of 750hp and 737 foot-pounds of torque, the front-end shows a new design direction for future BMWs, with an illuminated version of its black kidney grille.
With an instrument panel and infotainment display combined into a single curved design, and an interior featuring “vintage-look leather”, BMW say the concept XM “represents a complete re-imagining of the high-performance vehicle segment”.
While the XM is still a hybrid, it’s a strong move towards BMW’s vision of a fully electric future by 2030.
They are developing full EV versions of the 5 series and 7 series sedans.
This comes at a time when the UK has passed legislation that all new buildings must be equipped with electric charging stations from next year.
