Aussie Public Cloud Services Market Tipped To Hit $6.5bn

Australia’s public cloud services market will reach $6.5 billion, up 15 percent from last year, according to a new Gartner survey of the global public cloud market.

The highest growth will come from cloud application services (SaaS), a category which is projected to grow 25.9 percent in 2017 to reach $1.85 billion, Gartner says. Cloud-based infrastructure services (IaaS) are tipped to grow 14.4 percent to $476 million.

The Australian figures are part of Gartner’s latest survey of the global public cloud services market, which it expects to grow 18 percent this year to US$246.8 billion.

Gartner says that, worldwide, the highest growth will come from IaaS.  “The overall global public cloud market is entering a period of stabilisation, with its growth rate peaking at 18 percent in 2017 and then tapering off over the next few years,” says Sid Nag, research director at Gartner.

However Nag predicts that, through 2020, cloud adoption strategies will influence more than 50 percent of all IT outsourcing deals.
