Apple is believed to have also agreed to pay between $8 and $9 in patent royalties per iPhone,
Analyst UBS claims Apple paid the high price to end the bitter legal battle that had threatened its ability to launch a 5G iPhone.
The settlement included a one-off payment from Apple to Qualcomm, as well as a chipset supply agreement that suggests future iPhones will use Qualcomm modem chips. The payment was for royalties Apple had stopped paying when the two companies were embroiled in litigation.
