Acer To Push Thin-And-Light Models As Gaming Market Slips
Acer is planning to promote sales of its thin-and-light models in the Asia-Pacific region this year, according to company president Andrew Hou, and reported by Taipei-based DigiTimes.
Hou said he expects 2019 to be a difficult year and the company is bracing for flat or slight growth.
After two years of “staggering” growth, the gaming PC market has been experiencing a slowdown in 2019.
Gaming notebooks’ share of overall notebook shipments has reached 15 percent now. Hou said, however, this is unlikely to surpass 20 percent, adding that the company will now place more attention on promoting its ultra-thin notebooks, rather than gaming notebooks.
For its ultra-thin product line, Hou is now asking for a sales proportion higher than average in each of the Asia- Pacific markets.
At the moment, ultra-thin models only command about 20pc of overall notebook shipments, but Acer is looking to get this up to 70-80pc.
