Panasonic’s Baby-Monitoring Home Phone

Just when we all thought the advent of smartphones and unlimited plans deemed the landline obsolete, Panasonic adds an innovation essential for any new parent.

The company’s 856 series home phone doubles as a baby monitor by automatically detecting when a baby is crying in and notifying a paired handset (or pre-registered external line).

Apart from the baby monitor innovation, the 856 series shares many features with the 816 series. Both home phones will operate during a blackout by simply placing the handset on the base, and if the blackout occurs while on the phone, they handsets dig into their 1 minute reserve.

Both phones feature a 1.8 inch TFT colour LCD screen, Long Range Clear Sound for clear conversations with fewer interruptions, an answering machine, and call waiting caller ID/incoming call barring.

The 816 series comes with a convenient LED light which flashes to notify users of a new message, alarm and call activity.

The 816 and 856 cordless phone series can be expanded to six handsets, with their pricing and availability following.
