Garmin smartwatch users now have access to an official WhatsApp application, with the app rolling out through the Garmin Connect IQ Store at no cost.

The new app allows users to interact with WhatsApp directly from their watch, removing the need to rely on a connected smartphone for basic communication. Users can read incoming messages, reply within chats, send emojis and browse recent conversations.

In addition to messaging, the app also supports call management. Incoming WhatsApp calls can be accepted or declined from the watch, offering more convenience for users who want to stay connected while on the move.

As with the mobile version of the platform, conversations remain protected by end-to-end encryption.

The app is not available across the entire Garmin line-up. Compatibility is limited to selected models within the Forerunner, Venu, Vivoactive and Fenix ranges. Users can check availability for their specific device through the Connect IQ Store.

The release marks another step in expanding smartwatch support for WhatsApp. Meta introduced a dedicated app for the Apple Watch late last year, following earlier functionality that relied on mirrored notifications from an iPhone.

With this latest addition, Garmin users now gain more direct access to messaging features on their devices, reflecting the growing demand for standalone smartwatch communication.
