Western Digital’s My Book Live Duo Creates Your Own Cloud
![]() The new My Book Live Duo is a dual-drive storage unit that acts as a personal cloud storage system when hooked up to your Broadband connection or over Wi-Fi.
Users can remotely access their storage via web browser or through the WD mobile app on tablets and smartphones. DLNA-certified, the device can stream content around the home or office to other certified devices, or straight onto tablets and smartphones through the WD 2go app. The 4TB version runs at $599.99 while the 6TB retails for $799.99 (well ahead of the sub-$400 and -$500 prices listed for the US). Two drives can be slotted into the usual RAID configuration to either double the capacity or create a constant backup for the extra-sensitive users working with extra-sensitive data. Whether on Mac or Windows, the Live Duo continuously mirrors one hard drive onto the other, so by the off-chance that one drive fails, the second comes in as a backup. The housing itself is powered by its own in-built 800 MHz CPU. WD’s latest My Books are distributed across Australia by Synnex Australia and Express Online. |
