Visa has launched a new platform aimed at helping retailers and payment providers plug into the fast-emerging world of AI-driven shopping.

The product, Intelligent Commerce Connect, is designed as a single integration that allows businesses to accept transactions initiated by AI agents.

It forms part of Visa’s broader Intelligent Commerce portfolio and is currently in pilot with partners including AWS, Diddo, Highnote, Mesh, Payabli and Sumvin, with a wider rollout expected later this year.

The platform operates through the Visa Acceptance Platform and supports key functions such as payment initiation, tokenisation, authentication and spend controls.

Notably, it allows AI agents to transact using both Visa and non-Visa cards, signalling a more open approach as competition intensifies in the space.

Visa said the tool will also enable merchants to expose product catalogues directly to AI platforms, allowing consumers to discover, select and complete purchases without leaving an agent interface – removing the need for traditional checkout flows.

The system supports multiple emerging agent standards, including Trusted Agent Protocol, Machine Payments Protocol, Agentic Commerce Protocol and Universal Commerce Protocol, reflecting the fragmented state of the ecosystem.

The launch highlights how quickly payments firms are building infrastructure for so-called “agentic commerce”, where AI systems act on behalf of users to complete transactions.

Visa has previously stressed that while AI is set to play a growing role in shopping, widespread adoption will hinge on trust, security and user control.
