Vibrator Owners Spied On Via App Now Claiming Damages

Australians who used the smartphone app linked with “We-Vibe Classic” and “Rave by We-Vibe” vibrators that are openly sold in Australia, could be up for compensation after it was revealed that the Company who made the products spied on their sexually active customers.

The Company has already agreed to fork out nearly $5 million in the USA over claims that the company was spying on how owners used the silicone toys when getting hot and heavy, according to reports.

Customers who used the smartphone app linked with “We-Vibe Classic” and “Rave by We-Vibe” vibrators will be paid up to $10,000 each as the result of a class-action lawsuit filed in the USA Fortune magazine claims.

The pricey sex toys retail up to $149 and allow a partner to control the features of the vibrator via Bluetooth and the app.

Two people filed the lawsuit against the Canadian sex toy maker last year after it came to light at the hacking conference, Def Con, that the We-Vibe company was collecting data regarding how customers used the vibrators.

The smartphone app transmitted information to the company’s servers about the usage, including temperature and the vibration intensity the owners used the vibrators at and how frequently they were used, according to Fortune.

The company stressed that no personal information was hacked by outside parties.

We-Vibe’s parent company, Standard Innovation, said in a statement, “We are pleased to have reached a fair and reasonable settlement in this matter. At Standard Innovation we take customer privacy and data security seriously.”

“We have enhanced our privacy notice, increased app security, provided customers more choice in the data they share, and we continue to work with leading privacy and security experts to enhance the app.”

Those who purchased a We-Vibe device, but did not use the app, will receive up to $199 through the settlement.
