Telstra Net Hits MCG Record

The near 100,000 crowd at the Melbourne Cricket Ground for Saturday’s AFL grand final generated a record 2.3 terabytes of traffic on the Telstra mobile network, the telco has reported. That compares with just 1.2 terabytes recorded at last year’s grand final.

The fans used their mobile phones and other devices to stream video, browse the Internet, and upload photos to social media as well as making and receiving calls, Telstra says.

This follows a recent major upgrade of Telstra’s mobile network at MCG, which the telco says is making it the “most connected” stadium in the southern hemisphere.
