Netflix Lose Out As Disney+ To Stream Avengers: Endgame Exclusively

Disney CEO Bob Iger has announced that the record-breaking blockbuster Avengers: Endgame will stream exclusively on its upcoming streaming service, Disney+, from December 11, giving punters even more reason to jump ship from Netflix to the new service.

The Disney streaming service is slated to launch in the US on November 12, 2019, and roll out to international markets — including Australia — thereafter.

It is set to compete head-on with Netflix, Foxtel, and Stan — who have a current deal with Disney regarding streaming rights, and who is optimistic that a new deal can be inked.

It’s likely that Disney’s huge vault of content which contains content which appeals to all generations and preferences could hurt local content providers with most major app providers getting access to the new service.

ChannelNews previously reported that the streaming service is expected to be cheaper than both Netflix and Stan, with subscription fees tipped to be $8.95 a month with a 30-day free trial.

Avengers: Endgame is currently the second-highest grossing film of all time, racking in more than US$1.2 billion in its global opening weekend alone, blasting past other major Disney title Star Wars: The Force Awakens previous record of US$517 million.

Iger made the announcement during the company’s quarterly earnings report.

Avengers: Endgame is still showing in cinemas locally and will likely appear on DVD and Blu-ray before its streaming launch on Disney+.
