Sony Leak Reveals Premium Headphones Ahead Of Expected Launch
Sony’s next-generation over-ear headphones have surfaced online before any official announcement, after actor Damson Idris was seen wearing an unreleased model in New York in the lead-up to the Met Gala.
Images of the device, believed to be called the WH-1000XX or “The ColleXion”, have quickly circulated, offering an early look at what could become Sony’s most high-end audio product to date. The company is widely expected to formally reveal the headphones on 19 May, but the leak has already generated significant interest.
The design appears to take a more premium direction compared with previous models. The headband is reportedly constructed from metal, along with reinforced detailing around the headphone jack, giving the product a more refined finish. The structure of the earcups has also been adjusted, with the arms now integrated into the cups rather than sitting on top.
Sony is said to be continuing with a non-folding design, similar to its earlier approach, although this may come at the cost of portability. The new model is expected to weigh about 312 grams, roughly 25 per cent heavier than its predecessor.

On the audio side, the WH-1000XX is tipped to introduce DSEE Ultimate, Sony’s advanced AI-driven sound enhancement technology. The headphones are also expected to support spatial audio with head tracking, along with what is being described as studio-level sound performance.
Noise cancellation is another area receiving attention, with reports suggesting the inclusion of 12 microphones. This would exceed the number used in rival products such as Apple’s AirPods Max 2, potentially giving Sony an edge in reducing external noise.
Battery life is expected to reach around 24 hours with active noise cancellation enabled, offering a modest improvement over competing models.
The higher-end positioning is also reflected in the expected price. The WH-1000XX ColleXion is tipped to launch at approximately A$990, making it one of Sony’s most expensive headphone releases and placing it above key competitors in the premium segment.
While Sony has yet to confirm any details, the early leak has already set expectations that the company is preparing to make a stronger push into the luxury audio market.
