SIM2 Targets Australia’s Luxury Home Cinema Market With 4K Laser Projector
Italian projector specialist SIM2 is strengthening its presence in the Australian and New Zealand premium home cinema market, with its Ultra NERO 4 offering a high-end projection solution for enthusiasts seeking a large-screen cinematic experience.
Priced at $49,999 in Australia, the Ultra NERO 4 combines 4K UHD DLP imaging with a hybrid laser light source capable of delivering up to 7,000 lumens of brightness.
The projector is available through specialist dealers supplied by AVOZ, which was appointed SIM2’s Australian and New Zealand distributor in July.
Designed for dedicated home theatres and larger projection screens, the Ultra NERO 4 incorporates SIM2’s ceramic phosphor technology, which is intended to improve thermal management, colour stability and brightness consistency.
According to SIM2, the ceramic components help maintain reliable light output over extended viewing periods, with the laser light source rated for approximately 20,000 hours of operation.
The company also claims brightness uniformity of more than 95 per cent across the projected image, helping maintain consistent picture quality from the centre to the edges of the screen.
SIM2 has incorporated proprietary HDR processing designed to preserve highlight detail and improve tonal separation, particularly when displaying high-dynamic-range movies on larger screens.
Installation flexibility is another key feature, with motorised zoom, focus and horizontal and vertical lens shift allowing installers to precisely adjust the projected image.
The Ultra NERO 4 supports a throw ratio of 1.26:1 to 1.98:1, with horizontal lens shift of ±25 per cent and vertical adjustment of ±55 per cent.

SIM2’s Perfect Fit system also allows users to switch between 16:9 widescreen and 2.35:1 cinematic formats, accommodating different movie aspect ratios.
Connectivity includes two HDMI inputs, an HDMI output and HDBaseT, alongside LAN, RS-232 and 12V trigger connections for integration with custom home cinema control systems.
Despite its substantial brightness output, SIM2 claims operating noise remains below 30dBA.
The projector measures 485mm wide, 180mm high and 430mm deep, weighing 14.5kg.
SIM2’s focus on high-performance projection has also attracted international recognition.
Its more advanced Ultra NERO 4S DUO received two awards at CEDIA Expo 2026 in Denver, including a CE Pro BEST Product Award and an AVS Forum Best of CEDIA award.
Unlike the single-projector Ultra NERO 4, the DUO incorporates two specialised laser projection engines, with one optimised for bright highlights and the other for shadow detail.
SIM2 claims the dual-engine system delivers a combined brightness output of up to 12,000 lumens.
With its high brightness, advanced HDR processing and extensive installation flexibility, the Ultra NERO 4 is aimed at enthusiasts investing in dedicated home cinema environments rather than conventional living-room entertainment systems.
However, at almost $50,000, it occupies the luxury end of the projection market, where customers expect premium image quality and considerable flexibility in creating a customised cinema experience.
