Samsung have announced a major boost for the Galaxy Z foldable smartphone range by adding in a dust resistance certification for this year’s models.
It has been reported the Galaxy Z Fold 5 and Galaxy Z Flip 5 will have an UP58 rating, determined by the International Electrotechnical Commission.
There were indications the Fold 5 would gain dustproof Ingress Protection rating, but now its being said both will get the protection.
The leaker (via 9to5Google) had previously reported, the Fold 5 would get the dustproof Ingress Protection rating, but now they’re saying both handsets will get the protection from the elements. It is expected to be an IP rating of ‘5,’ with the highest rating a 6.
Providing a “totally dust tight” experience and “full protection against dust and other particulates, including a vacuum seal, tested against continuous airflow.”
The Motorola Razr 40 Ultra has set the mark for cover displays, with a 3.6 inch 1,056 x 1,066px display (413ppi). There are rumours that Samsung won’t be able to match it.
Current circulation suggests the new Flip with have a 3.4 inch 720 x 748p (304ppi) display.
It has been presumed both will have SD 8+ Gen 1 chipsets, with its Snapdragon 8 Gen 2, and the Gen 2 chip for battery life improvements. The specs remain the same at 3,700mAh capacity, 25W charging. The old Flip got a 92h endurance rating.
The camera system won’t change either, bringing the 12+12MP setup, 8GB of RAM, and 128/256GB storage, plus Android 13 and OneUI 5.1. Chances are Samsung will also enable DeX for the first time, but that hasn’t been confirmed.
