Samsung Display has unveiled a new foldable OLED brand, MONT FLEX, ahead of the K-Display 2025 trade show, which runs from August 7-9.

The move is designed to further Samsung’s leadership in next-generation display technologies. The launch comes as other major players are also preparing to unveil their latest models.

It’s almost seven years since the first mass-market foldable phone, the Samsung Galaxy Fold, was released. Now consumers are accustomed to the technology, their attention has shifted to its drawbacks.

Samsung, like its competitors, is attempting to address consumer concerns over durability, noticeable display creases, weight and dimensions.

Part of the brand name is an acronym that spells out how the pain points are being addressed. As Samsung has announced, “Each letter of MONT stands for a key technology strength: Mechanical durability, Opto mechanically flat, Narrow bezels, and a Thin and lightweight.”

Samsung also boasts that its “latest foldable panel delivers a slimmer and lighter design than previous models while remaining fully functional after 500,000 folds” and that it will “continue pushing the boundaries to deliver even more foldable products that exceed market expectations.”

Samsung Display hasn’t revealed when its new foldable panel will go into production. However, it may be incorporated into the Galaxy Z Fold 8 and Z Flip 8, which are expected to arrive mid-next year.

While Samsung continues to dominate the category, it faces competition from the likes of Huawei, Lenovo and Xiaomi, as well as Google, which is launching the Pixel 10 Pro Fold on August 20.
