Samsung Backs Galaxy S7 Waterproofing, Rejects Questionable Claims

Samsung is backing the waterproof capability of their Galaxy S7 to the extent that they will replace any smartphones with water depth problems.

The Korean Company claims that they are standing behind their flagship Galaxy S7 Active’s IP68 rating after a review claimed that the phone was unable to live up to its water-proofing claims.

A Consumer Reports review found two of the devices stopped working when placed in a tank that simulated depths of 1.5 metres of water.

At the time, Samsung said the particular devices used for the test may have been defective and “not as watertight as it should be.”

Now, the firm, which advertises the device as IP68 water resistant to depths of 1.5 metres (5 feet), has issued a statement to say it will replace any phones that suffer water damage.

The statement reads: “The Galaxy S7 active passed rigorous tests to ensure IP68 certification for water resistance.

“Samsung stands behind this water resistance certification, and will replace any Galaxy S7 active under its standard limited warranty, should water damage occur.”

The phone itself is only available in the US and is designed to be one of the most durable handsets available, which makes it surprising that the S7 Active failed where the regular Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge succeeded,

Both those phones have the same IP68 rating as the Active, and managed to pass the same test that the active failed in the Consumer Reports’ review.
