Samsung Aims to Launch Tri-Fold Smartphone by End of Year
Samsung is gearing up to launch its first tri-fold smartphone by the end of 2025, according to the company’s mobile chief Roh Tae-moon.
Speaking at the Galaxy Unpacked event in New York, Roh confirmed that the device is nearing completion but that the company has not decided on a name yet.
Codenamed internally as the Galaxy G Fold, the device has been in the works for some time and is reportedly production-ready.
It features a G-shaped folding mechanism with two inward-folding hinges and a separate cover screen.
Doubts remain around consumer appetite for such a premium product, with prices expected to exceed A$4,500, well above the A$2,999 Galaxy Z Fold7.

The tri-fold form factor was teased earlier this year and Samsung appears cautious not to rush the rollout.
“When we first introduced foldables in 2019, many were skeptical,” Roh said. “Now they’re a major category. We believe competition and innovation will drive the market forward.”
In addition to foldables, Samsung also announced the Galaxy Z Flip 7 and Fold 7, featuring slimmer builds and powered by the in-house Exynos 2500 chip globally. This is a notable shift from the Qualcomm processors used in its flagship Galaxy S25.
Roh defended the Exynos decision, saying: “It’s not just about raw benchmarks. The AP was validated comprehensively with our software and partners.”
Samsung also reiterated its commitment to Galaxy AI, aiming to bring its on-device AI capabilities to over 400 million Galaxy devices by the end of 2025, across both flagship and mid-range models.
