Pro-Ject Brings Valve Warmth to Phono Preamps
Austrian hi-fi brand Pro-Ject Audio Systems has expanded its range with two valve-based models that aim to blend classic warmth with modern connectivity.
The new Tube Box S3 B is a compact phono stage built around a balanced valve design, offering symmetrical discrete gain stages to reduce noise and preserve signal integrity.
Unlike many rivals at a similar price point, it accommodates two turntables via balanced and unbalanced inputs, storing settings for quick switching.
Gain can be set between 40-65 dB, covering both moving-magnet and moving-coil cartridges, while its aluminium case shields against interference.

If you really want to appreciate vinyl, you need a solid phono preamp
For buyers on a tighter budget, the Tube Box E offers a dual-mono discrete circuit with front-panel loading controls.
Owners can fine-tune gain, capacitance and impedance, and deploy a subsonic filter to tame low-frequency rumble. Gold-plated RCA sockets and a sturdy metal build complete the package.
If you’re struggling with all that jargon, the summary is that Pro-Ject has created two impressive but relatively affordable phono stages, aka preamps.
These will deliver a warm analogue sound when vinyl records are played.
With vinyl sales continuing to rise across the globe, Pro-Ject will be hoping that delivering quality audio at a reasonable cost will expand its customer base beyond deep-pocketed audiophiles.
