Austrian hi‑fi specialist Pro‑Ject Audio Systems has expanded its personal audio lineup with two new fully balanced headphone amplifiers, designed to deliver turntable‑level clarity to wired listening setups.

The new Head Box S3 B and the more powerful Head Box DS3 B are the first products in a refreshed generation of Pro‑Ject’s compact amp series. Both promise cleaner, more detailed sound with minimal distortion, whether paired with mid-range or high-end headphones.

A standout feature is their fully balanced circuitry. Unlike amps that only provide balanced connectors, Pro‑Ject ensures the entire signal path remains balanced, reducing noise and improving stereo separation for a wider, more lifelike soundstage.

The Head Box S3 B (pictured above) targets listeners seeking high-quality sound without a high-end price. It uses Texas Instruments amplification chips to deliver up to 820 mW into 32 ohms, enough to drive most headphones effectively, and its compact design is suited for desktops and smaller setups.

For more demanding headphones, the Head Box DS3 B (pictured below) offers a fully discrete amplifier stage with approximately 1.5 W into 32 ohms, providing extra power.

Both models feature RCA and XLR inputs, along with 3.5 mm, 6.3 mm, 4.4 mm Pentaconn, and 4‑pin XLR headphone outputs, allowing flexible connectivity with a wide range of headphones and sources.

Pro‑Ject also continues to offer the micro‑sized Head Box E, aimed at casual listeners seeking an affordable taste of high-fidelity sound.

The Head Box S3 B is priced around A$660 (GBP £329), while the DS3 B costs about AU$1,265 (GBP £629). Both are available in black or silver finishes.
