People Seeking US Entry Must Now Hand Over Social Media Details

To enter the US from now on, visa applicants must submit their social media usernames, along with previous e-mail addresses and phone numbers as part of the application process.

The new requirement could affect up to 15 million would-be travellers to the US, but Australians seeking short-stay visitor visas may be exempted.

US officials say national security is top priority when adjudicating visa applications and prospective travellers and immigrants may cop “extensive” security screening.
