“We just #TangoDown’d twitter.com for 40 minutes worldwide!” ‘UGNazi’ account tweeted at 10.21pm 22 June.
‘Tango Down’ in hacker speak refers to the downing of a website and was part of a Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) attack on the popular micro blog site.
The attack occurred around 6 hours ago local time.
The hackers attacked Twitter as it supports the Cyber Intelligence Sharing and Protection Act (CISPA), according to the group.
The UGNazi Twitter account is adorned with Hitler wallpaper and has a listing of whom is thought to be among its members: ‘JoshTheGod, Mr Osama, Cosmo and CyberZeist ‘
The UG Nazi group also posted some other disturbing messages including “We will be getting rid of the jews once more. ”
Twitter confirmed the social network was down, saying “Users may be experiencing issues accessing Twitter. Our engineers are currently working to resolve the issue.”
However, Twitter failed to confirm an attack on service, but said: “Today’s outage is due to a cascaded bug in one of our infrastructure components. We’ll provide updated information soon.”
|One alarmed Tweeter wrote: “What would we do if there were an extended Twitter outage?” and a mass of other also expressed their dismay at the Tweeting famine, however temporary.
But an hour later the network confirmed it was back on track. The site is fully functional at present.
