Oppo has unveiled its Android 17-based ColorOS 17 operating system in China, introducing new AI tools, performance upgrades and cross-device features ahead of the Find X10 series launch on September 22.

The update introduces a ‘Fluid Design’ interface featuring more consistent animations, translucent visual elements and touch-responsive effects.

Underneath, Oppo’s Polar Light Engine is claimed to reduce app start-up and runtime memory use by 25% and rendering workloads by 30%.

A new Tidal Engine learns how frequently and for how long apps are used before allocating system resources. Oppo claims it improves background app retention by 55.6%, launch stability by 35% and app-switching speed by 15%.

ColorOS 17 also expands Oppo’s suite of generative AI tools. Its AI Photo Editor can remove objects, reduce motion blur and replicate the colour, lighting or skin tones of a reference image.

AI Notes can simultaneously record and structure meeting information, while AI Memory Gallery turns groups of images into automatically written photo stories.

New security functions include cross-app fraud detection, AI-generated voice detection and warnings when face-swapping technology may be used during video calls.

The software also adds real-time translation through compatible Oppo earphones, improved smartwatch controls, Car+ connectivity and direct access to supported cameras and network-attached storage.

The Find X10 series, OnePlus 16 and Oppo Watch S2 will ship with ColorOS 17 in China. Existing devices will begin receiving it from October 8, led by the Find N6 and Find X9 series, followed by the Find X8 range from October 16.

The China rollout also covers selected OnePlus and Realme products, but Oppo has not announced a global or Australian release schedule.

Meanwhile, Oppo has published early camera samples from the standard Find X10 ahead of its September 22 Chinese launch.

The handset features Hasselblad-tuned 200MP main and telephoto cameras, reportedly supported by a 24-channel colour sensor designed to produce more natural lighting and skin tones.

Oppo’s samples show strong detail and natural-looking colours in bright outdoor conditions, although one image appears to lose some detail in direct sunlight.

The Find X10 Pro Max is expected to go further with three 200MP rear cameras. Australian pricing and availability remain unconfirmed.
