Oppo is reportedly preparing to join Samsung and Apple in the race to build a wider style of foldable smartphone, with leaks pointing to a new Find N7 model due in early 2027.

According to Chinese tipster Digital Chat Station, Oppo is developing a wide-screen foldable that could launch in the first quarter of next year, potentially putting it up against Samsung’s expected Galaxy Z Fold 8 Wide and Apple’s long-rumoured foldable iPhone.

The device is tipped to use Qualcomm’s next-generation Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 chipset, listed under the SM8950 model number, along with a dedicated AI accelerator designed to handle more demanding on-device AI tasks.

The standout feature, however, could be the battery.

Early engineering samples are reportedly being tested with a capacity of around 6,500mAh, which would make it unusually large for a foldable phone.

That would put it ahead of many current book-style foldables, including the Find N6 (pictured), where battery life remains one of the biggest compromises due to thin chassis designs and large dual displays.

A battery of that size would likely require silicon-carbon technology to keep the device relatively slim.

Previous leaks have suggested the Oppo Find N7 could feature a 5.5-inch outer display and a 7.6-inch internal display, with panels reportedly sourced from both Samsung Display and BOE.

Oppo is also said to be working on an advanced hinge system designed to reduce or eliminate the visible crease on the main screen.

The company is reportedly testing two rear camera layouts, including a large circular camera island similar to recent Oppo flagships and a horizontal pill-shaped design.

The shift toward wider foldables is becoming a major theme for 2027.

Unlike taller and narrower foldables, wide-screen models are designed to open into a more tablet-like shape, potentially making them better suited to video, gaming, multitasking and web browsing.

Oppo has experimented with the format before through earlier Find N models, including the Find N2, which used a squarer design than Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold range at the time.

Oppo has not yet officially confirmed the device.
