Amazon Hikes Echo, Kindle And Fire TV Prices By Up To 60%

Amazon has increased prices across its Echo, Kindle, Fire TV and eero ranges by as much as 60%, blaming surging memory and storage component costs.

The increases have initially appeared in the US, with Amazon yet to confirm whether equivalent price rises will affect Australia.

Amazon’s entry-level fifth-generation Echo Dot received the largest percentage increase, climbing from US$49.99 to US$79.99 – a US$30 or 60% jump.

The Fire TV Stick 4K Max rose more than 41% from US$59.99 to US$84.99, while the cheaper Fire TV Stick HD increased from US$34.99 to US$39.99.

Kindle buyers have also been hit. The standard 16GB Kindle now costs US$149.99, up nearly 37% from US$109.99, while the 16GB Kindle Paperwhite has risen 25% from US$159.99 to US$199.99.

Other increases include the Echo Spot, which climbed from US$79.99 to US$109.99, and the Echo Dot Max, which rose from US$99.99 to US$119.99.

The Echo Show 21 received the largest increase in dollar terms, moving from US$399.99 to US$499.99. Amazon’s eero Pro 7 three-pack also jumped by US$100 to US$799.99.

Amazon said its commitment to offering accessible products had not changed, with promotions expected to continue.

Not every Amazon-owned product has become more expensive.

The company’s Ring security cameras and video doorbells were reportedly spared, alongside the premium Echo Studio speaker.

Amazon joins Apple, Dell, HP, Asus and Roku in raising hardware prices as strong AI industry demand places pressure on global memory supplies.
