New iPhone Leak Reveals Design & Face Unlock Feature
Apple has inadvertently leaked evidence of the bezel-less design of the upcoming iPhone as well as a new face unlock feature.
Among the new information discovered by developers analysing the firmware of Apple’s upcoming HomePod smart speaker was an icon depicting what appears to be an iPhone with an almost bezel-less display:
The leaked image supports long-running rumours that have suggested Apple would be adopting a bezel-less design similar to the Samsung Galaxy S8 and the LG G6 in the upcoming ‘iPhone 8’.
It’s currently unclear whether the Touch ID fingerprint reader typically located in the home button will be moved to the back of the iPhone, or if Apple will introduce under-display fingerprint recognition in contradiction to recent reports.
Developer Steve Troughton-Smith also discovered references to an infrared face unlock feature as part of the BiometricKit framework of the next iPhone.
Reports have indicated Apple will launch a new OLED iPhone alongside two other new iPhone devices outside of the typical September launch window due to manufacturing issues and supply problems.
The first indication of a delay may be revealed in Apple’s earnings results tomorrow.
