Audio specialist Cambridge Audio has a new pair of wireless headphones, but the big question is why premium audio retailers in Australia dropping the UK brand from their stores.

Retailers in Australia appear to have moved to derange the brand that last night launched the Melomania M100 wireless earbuds, and the new Melomania P100 wireless headphones that come are equipped with active noise cancellation (ANC) and boast a rated battery life of up to 60 hours, or 100 hours with ANC turned off.

Sight & Sound Galleria joins a long list of retailers who appear to have moved on to other brands as a replacement for Cambridge Audio products.

The brand was at one stage distributed by Synergy Audio.

One retailer who is still selling the brand is Addicted To Audio also ranging the brand is the Gold Coast Car Sound Shop, they only have one product that is discounted out with the retailer claiming that they are about to drop the product.

18 months ago, all the retailers listed below were selling Cambridge Audio products with most refusing to say why the sudden exit from the brand.

We have asked Steven Bowers, the Head of Global Sales for Cambridge Audio to comment.

As for the Companies new product the standout is the use of Qualcomm’s Snapdragon Sound processor, with aptX Lossless technology.
This processor is being used to ensure CD-quality audio over Bluetooth, with aptX Adaptive supporting higher resolutions up to 24 bits/96 kHz Cambridge Audio claims.

Each earcup houses a custom 1.6-inch (40 mm) driver featuring three layers of Mylar and neodymium magnets — a combination said to convey “deep, controlled bass, realistic vocals, and beautiful treble clarity.”

The Melomania Connect app brings a seven-band equalizer with six music presets into the fold for personalizing the sound.

Like its M100 sibling, the P100 headphones support Gaming Mode, which puts Bluetooth into a low-latency mode, reducing delay to 80 milliseconds and ensuring sound and images are in sync.

In addition to hybrid noise cancellation that uses an array of six microphones to keep noise at bay, the P100 headphones employ Qualcomm’s Clear Voice Calling cVc 8.0 technology to suppress background noise and improve voice clarity during calls.

To ensure a comfortable fit, a lightweight aluminium headband with a soft vegan leather covering supports earcups with memory-foam earpads covered in faux leather.

Cambridge says extensive testing was conducted to determine the “ideal clamping force to suit the largest variety of head sizes.”

Both the earpads and battery can be replaced using ordinary tools, and Cambridge provides a carrying case with two cables for wired listening: one with a USB-C connector on one end and a 3.5 mm minijack on the other, and a second with a USB-C connector on each end.

The P100 headphones are offered in black or white and support multipoint connectivity, which enables them to connect with more than one device simultaneously.
