Motorola could be preparing to give Android users a cheaper path to MagSafe-style magnetic charging, with its upcoming Edge 70 Max appearing in certification documents with full Qi2 wireless charging support.

The Motorola Edge 70 Max has been listed by the Wireless Power Consortium, revealing support for Qi2 25W magnetic wireless charging. The listing identifies the device under model code XT2611, with Qi version 2.2.1 and an MPP25 power profile.

That last detail is important, as MPP25 indicates the phone has built-in magnets, allowing it to connect directly to magnetic wireless chargers and accessories rather than relying on a special case.

Apple has normalised magnetic charging through MagSafe for several years, but Android brands have been slower to adopt the feature properly. Many Android devices have been marketed as “Qi2 ready”, but still require a magnetic case to work with MagSafe-style accessories.

Google’s Pixel 10 series helped move Android closer to the iPhone model by adding built-in magnets, but Motorola could now bring the feature to a wider, potentially cheaper premium mid-range market.

The Edge 70 Max is tipped to support 25W wireless charging, making it one of the faster wireless charging phones in Motorola’s Edge range. Magnetic charging also improves alignment, making accessories such as battery packs, car mounts, desk stands and camera grips more useful.

As previously reported, the Edge 70 Max had already been tipped to feature a Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 processor, a 50MP Sony Lytia camera and a rugged MIL-STD 810H-certified design.

Leaked marketing images and reports suggest the Edge 70 Max will feature a flat metal frame, a rugged MIL-STD-810H-certified body and a triple camera system led by a 50MP Sony Lytia sensor.

The phone is also expected to run Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 chipset, placing it below true flagship models but still in the upper tier of Android performance.

Colour options are tipped to include black, green and light blue, likely carrying Motorola’s usual Pantone branding.

Motorola has not yet confirmed launch timing, pricing or Australian availability for the Edge 70 Max. However, Wireless Power Consortium certification often appears close to launch, suggesting an official reveal may not be far away.
