Shark Unveils Convertible Vacuum That Switches Between Three Cleaning Modes
Shark has introduced a new vacuum cleaner that combines three different cleaning formats into a single appliance, giving users the flexibility to switch between upright, stick and handheld configurations without needing separate machines.
Known as the PowerDetect Transformer, the vacuum is designed to adapt to different cleaning tasks around the home. It starts as a full-size upright model for cleaning large floor areas, but the main canister can be detached with a single action to convert it into a lighter stick vacuum for reaching tighter spaces. Removing the extension wand transforms it again into a handheld unit suitable for furniture, stairs, vehicles and other above-floor cleaning jobs.
Unlike many traditional upright vacuums, the PowerDetect Transformer eliminates the bulky hose typically attached to the main body, creating a more streamlined design.
The upright configuration delivers the strongest suction for deep cleaning carpets and hard floors. It also features Shark’s dual-brushroll system, which is designed to pick up more dust, dirt, debris and hair than conventional single-brush systems. The company says the brushrolls actively reduce hair wrapping during use, minimising the need to manually remove tangled hair after cleaning.

The stick and handheld modes use a smaller dust container positioned near the handle. Once the vacuum is reassembled into its upright configuration, the smaller bin automatically transfers its contents into the larger main canister, removing the need to empty two separate dust cups.
The PowerDetect Transformer is available now through Shark’s US online store and TikTok Shop. The standard model is priced at approximately A$812, while a pet-focused bundle that includes additional cleaning tools and specialised attachments costs around A$998.
Convertible vacuum cleaners have become increasingly common as consumers look for appliances that can perform multiple roles while reducing storage space. However, Shark’s three-in-one approach expands on the concept by combining upright, stick and handheld cleaning into a single product, offering an alternative to purchasing separate vacuums for different cleaning tasks.
The launch also comes as competition in the premium cordless vacuum market continues to intensify, with manufacturers increasingly focusing on versatility, ease of use and specialised cleaning features to differentiate their products.
Release date and pricing for Australia have not yet been confirmed.
