Miele Australia has recalled a washing machine after a fault was identified that could cause affected appliances to move during operation and, in some circumstances, overheat.

The recall applies to the Miele WWG880 WCS washing machine, a 9kg W1 front loader with PowerWash, TwinDos and Steam.

The affected machines were sold nationally and online between 28 October 2025 and 24 February 2026. The listed material number is 12704870.

According to the ACCC product safety recall, the spin cycle on affected appliances may operate with incorrect speed acceleration. This can affect the machine’s overall performance and cause it to move during operation.

The risk is higher if the appliance is installed on a platform 15cm or more above the ground and has not been secured with a mounting bracket. In that situation, the washing machine could tilt off the platform, which may cause the heating system to not be covered by water and overheat.

The ACCC warns there is a risk of serious injury and property damage if the appliance tilts off a platform, overheats and catches fire.

Consumers should stop using an affected machine immediately if it starts moving from its installed position and switch it off with care.

Miele said it will contact affected customers to arrange for a technician to install a software update and check that any machines used on a platform are correctly installed. All affected consumers will receive a bracket, whether or not the appliance is currently used on a platform.

The Miele recall follows another ACCC notice for the BenQ GV31 Portable mini projector, which has been recalled because its built-in battery may overheat and pose a fire risk.
