Midea has opened its first dedicated HVAC showroom and experience centre in Australia, signalling a deeper push into the local climate control market. The new facility in Melbourne is intended to showcase the company’s heating, ventilation and air-conditioning technologies while strengthening relationships with contractors, developers, consultants and consumers.

The showroom brings together systems from Midea Building Technologies, which focuses on commercial and trade HVAC equipment, alongside residential products from the company’s home air conditioning portfolio. The centre officially opened with a launch event on Friday 6 March and forms part of Midea’s broader strategy to expand its presence in both the commercial and residential climate solutions sectors in Australia.

Designed as a hands-on demonstration space, the showroom allows visitors to explore the company’s technologies in a working environment. Midea says the facility will serve as a hub for technical education, product demonstrations and collaboration with professionals across the Australian HVAC industry.

Midea is currently one of the largest manufacturers of air conditioning equipment globally. The company says it has held the position of the world’s leading air conditioner brand for the past two years and has ranked as the top residential inverter air conditioner manufacturer for the past three years. Worldwide production figures indicate that roughly one in four inverter air conditioners and about one in every two compressors are manufactured by Midea.

The Melbourne centre displays a broad range of commercial and residential solutions. Systems on display include light-commercial mini-VRF units, larger multi-unit HVAC systems, residential R290 heat pumps, commercial water heating systems and magnetic-bearing centrifugal chillers. The showroom also features products linked to building infrastructure such as LINVOL elevators, data-centre technologies and commercial building solutions.

Midea said the range highlights the company’s shift from supplying individual products to offering integrated systems designed for multiple building environments. As commercial buildings become more reliant on advanced climate control and energy management, the company says demand is increasing for HVAC systems that deliver efficiency, flexible operation and smarter control.

The showroom also includes a section dedicated to residential air conditioning products, allowing homeowners and installers to see the company’s consumer range in operation. Products on display include high-wall split systems, multi-split installations, portable units and ducted or cassette systems designed for homes, apartments and small commercial spaces.

Midea executives said Australia’s climate creates unique challenges for air conditioning systems. Conditions range from humid summers in northern regions to colder winters further south, which has increased the demand for systems capable of providing both cooling and heating throughout the year. As a result, air conditioners have become an essential household appliance rather than a purely seasonal product.

Ivan Ma, general manager for Midea Australia and New Zealand, said the opening of the facility represents an important step in the company’s long-term strategy in the country. He described the showroom as more than a display space, saying it provides a place for collaboration and technical learning between the company and its local partners.

Taufiq Lee, general manager for the Asia-Pacific region at Midea Building Technologies, said commercial HVAC systems are increasingly becoming integrated parts of building infrastructure rather than standalone equipment. He noted that modern buildings require systems that deliver efficiency, flexible capacity and intelligent management.

Lee also highlighted the company’s air-cooled modular chiller platform, which allows multiple units to work together as a single system. The design allows capacity to expand as building demand increases while maintaining efficient performance across varying operating conditions.

Henry Guan, country manager for Midea Residential Air Conditioning, said Australian households expect air conditioning systems that combine performance with energy efficiency and reliability. He added that the company has invested heavily in research and development to ensure its products are designed for local housing styles and energy requirements.

According to Guan, the new showroom is intended to give partners, installers and homeowners an opportunity to see how Midea’s technologies operate in real-world conditions while building stronger connections within the local market.

The Midea HVAC showroom is located at 1513 Dandenong Road in Oakleigh, Victoria.

Midea Building Technologies is a division of Midea Group focused on commercial HVAC equipment, building technologies and industrial systems aimed at improving energy efficiency and operational performance in modern buildings.
