Audio-Technica has launched a limited-edition pair of headphones that take their design cues from classic electric guitars.

The new ATH-WP900SE headphones have been developed in collaboration with Japanese guitar manufacturer Fujigen, best known for its work producing instruments for major global guitar brands.

The standout feature is a three-tone sunburst lacquer finish, a design strongly associated with vintage electric guitars.

Each pair uses solid ash wooden housings, with Fujigen involved in the process from wood selection through to the final lacquer coating.

Inside the closed-back headphones are newly developed 53mm dynamic drivers and a redesigned voice coil, engineered to deliver high-resolution audio across the frequency range.

Audio-Technica says the tuning is particularly suited to acoustic performances, jazz, guitar-led tracks and stringed instruments.

Despite the premium materials, Audio-Technica has kept the headphones relatively lightweight and portable. They use the company’s A2DC detachable connectors and ship with two cable options: a balanced 4.4mm cable and a standard 3.5mm cable.

The limited-edition positioning is reinforced with a handwritten serial number card included in the box. Buyers also receive a dedicated Fujigen cleaning cloth designed for the lacquered finish.

The headphones build on Audio-Technica’s existing ATH-WP900 wooden headphone range but swaps the regular model’s flame maple housings for solid ash and a more pronounced guitar-style sunburst finish.

The Audio-Technica are priced at £599 in the UK and €699 in Europe, equivalent to approximately A$1,145.
