iPhone SE Successor Rumoured 2020
Apple is reportedly planning to launch a new low-cost, 4.7-inch iPhone in 2020 in a bid to offset declines in sales and to appeal to consumers in emerging markets, according to sources in Asia.
The new smartphone will be the company’s first low-cost device since the 2016 launch of the iPhone SE, and according to a Nikkei report, Apple is looking to regain ground lost to companies like Samsung, Huawei and Xiaomi, who already sell low-cost devices in markets like China and India.
“The size of the new model will be similar to the 4.7-inch iPhone 8 that was introduced in 2017,” three sources told Nikkei.
“It will share most of the same components with the flagship iPhones and will feature the lower-cost liquid crystal display to help Apple achieve the lower starting price-tag.”
Another recent report via Economic Daily News (EDN) adds to the credibility of the rumour by also claiming an early-2020 launch for a new cheaper device.
In addition, EDN also claims it will feature a new PCB design for Apple’s A13 processor, a single-lens camera, and 128GB of storage.
Apple has yet to comment on these rumours.
