Reports that Apple’s next iPhone will use modem chips from Intel in some versions have added to speculation of major changes to the next model. These include an OLED display and no headphone jack.
Intel’s modem chips will be in iPhones used on AT&T’s US network and some other versions for overseas markets, reports say, although it’s not clear if that includes Australia.
They will replace chips usually supplied by Qualcomm whose shares took a hit on the news. Qualcomm chips will still be used in iPhones sold in China, while Verizon Communications’ US network will also stick with Qualcomm.
