Huawei Still Seeking 5G Role

Embattled Chinese networking giant Huawei says Australia should reduce risking national dependency on one supplier for its 5G rollout. Huawei made the argument in its submission to the Federal Government into Australia’s 2020 Cyber Security Strategy.

In its submission Huawei called on the Morrison Government to ensure a “more competitive, sustainable and diverse telecoms supply chain”, which it said would drive higher quality innovation and incentivise more investments in cyber-security.

Huawei has been excluded from taking part in Australia’s 5G rollout, but continues to push its case for inclusion, despite concerns within the Government and the intelligence community about its close links to Beijing.

Huawei urges the Australian Government to ensure the nation’s 5G services develop industrial capacity and new business models.
